Detroit, when we build it, they won’t come
From Raji Bedi:
Dear Detroit Entrepreneurs,
Although Detroit is in the midst of an unprecedented renaissance, we shouldn’t be distracted with a new sense of optimism. In order for the startup community to be a material part of the city’s recovery, we have to shoulder a burden unlike other tech hubs. Not only do we need to build innovative products, we need to build a community of early adopters - people that are willing to try everything Detroit from pickles, to pop, to POS systems.
Yes, startup communities need (1) entrepreneurs, and (2) resources for those entrepreneurs (investment capital, a capable workforce, infrastructure, etc). Detroit is showing more and more promise every day in those two areas. But, startups can’t survive without (3) early adopters. Our success depends on the competency of our community.
